Chioma's Corner- April edition

Dear Gentle Readers,

You were in the room.

Prepared. Clear. You contributed. You added value. You made your points. You left feeling like you had done enough to be seen.

But somehow, when decisions were made, your name never came up.

Amara noticed the pattern before she fully understood it.

She was doing everything right.

Strong performance. Consistent delivery. Thoughtful contributions in meetings. Her manager trusted her. Her team respected her.

And yet, when stretch opportunities came up, when high-visibility projects were assigned, when leadership conversations happened she was not the first person people thought of.

It did not make sense.

Until it did.

Amara realised something uncomfortable. Being present in the room was not the same as being remembered after you leave it.

She was contributing, but she was not positioning.

She was speaking, but she was not anchoring her value.

And in fast-moving environments, if people cannot easily recall what you stand for, they move on to someone they can.

Amara did not need to work harder.

She needed to be more intentional about how she showed up.

“Visibility is not just about being seen in the moment. It is about being remembered when you are not in the room.”

Be Memorable, Not Just Present. Whether working from home or being present at the office, you are remembered and selected when your value is to easy to remember.

In high-stakes environments, decisions are made quickly and often with incomplete information. Leaders, perhaps your manager rely on mental shortcuts who comes to mind easily, who they associate with impact, who feels like a safe and credible choice.

If your contributions are not clearly tied to outcomes, strengths, or a distinct narrative, they fade into the background.

💡 Visibility actions to implement in May

1. Define your one-line value anchor.
If someone had to describe you in a sentence in a leadership meeting, what would they say?

Write it down for yourself: Example: “I am the one who brings structure to complex projects and gets them over the line.”

2. Reinforce your value in every key interaction.
You do not need to repeat yourself. You need to be consistent.
When you speak in meetings, tie your input to outcomes.
When you give updates, highlight impact.
When you share ideas, connect them to business priorities.
Over time, patterns form and that is how reputations are built.

3. Close the loop on your contributions.
Do not assume people connect the dots. Announce your achievements!
If you worked on something meaningful, say what happened because of it.
“This led to…”
“This improved…”
“This allowed us to…”
Memorability is often just clarity repeated over time.

💬 Final Thoughts

As I reflect on April, it reminded us that growth is already happening even when we don’t fully see it yet.

As a community, we are evolving. Strengthening and Expanding.

Thank you for your continued presence, your energy, and your belief in what we are building together.

We are not just creating a network we are shaping a future.

And we are doing it together.

With gratitude,
Chioma
